Greetings and welcome to the Vermont Catholic Daughters of the Americas! It is my hope that you will learn a little about our very special organization.
Formed in 1903, The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the oldest and largest organization of Catholic women. CDA started in upstate New York and today has independent Courts throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam, and The Virgin Islands. In 1912 Court Isabella #173 in Fair Haven was the first court to be instituted in Vemront. They are celebrating their 109th anniversary this year. We have a long, wonderful history.
The Vermont State Court operates under the jurisdiction of the National Catholic Daughters of the Americas Board. The State Court as well as the local courts follow National bylaws which are approved by all the courts at the National biennial convention. All courts follow protocol and regulations set forth in the Tools of the Trade with each court establishing independent standing rules.
Prayer is essential to our monthly CDA meetings. We are spiritual women modeled after Our Blessed Mother. Our motto is: In Unity and Charity. We gather strength from our love of God and with our sisters in Christ; we are emboldened to do spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
We are involved in many church and community activities and extend our charity throughout the state as well as supporting national charity projects. A recent state project was a “sock challenge” where we collected 3,000 pairs of socks which were donated to many different charities.
I hope that this perks your interest and that you will check us out.
God Bless!
Loretta Schneider
